03.05.23 kell 18:00 avas Johannes Luik Haapsalu Linnagaleriis oma isiknäituse “Lahti pakkida ja kokku voltida”.
Näitus on mõtteline jätk Johannese 2021 aastal toimunud näitusele “Ma tean, mis oli eile homme” Tartu Kunstimajas, ning toetub tugevalt loomisprotsessist tulenevalt tekkivatele juhuslikele assotsiatsioonidele. Protsessist tulev kunstniku praktika sisaldab endas sõnastamatute seoste pidevat desifreerimist läbi ennast ümbritsevate vormide, materjalide ja ruumidega töötamise.
…Teisel pool seina asub teine ruumala. Seal ruumalas on voodi, öökapp, veel raamatuid, riidekapp. Kahe ruumi vahel asub uks. Uks ei ole siin ega seal ruumalas. Uks on liminaalne ruum, suhteliselt õhuke ja inimmõõduline. Kui uks on lahti, osutab ainulist takistust ruumalade vahelises liiklemises lävepakk, millest tuleb üle astuda. Seeläbi võime ukse ruumala nimetada ka lävialaks. Kui Tallinnas ei saavat rattaliiklust arendada, sest linn olevat kikilipsu kujuline, siis ühest ruumalast teise liikumisel pidurdab hoogu läviala. Eriti ilmseks saab läviala läbilaskevõime korteripidudel, kus uksepiida najale hakkab alati noota kogunema…

On 03.05.23 at 18:00, Johannes Luik will open his solo exhibition "Unpack to Fold Up" in the Haapsalu City Gallery.
The exhibition explores random associations evoked by the process of creating. Luiks process-focussed artistic practice deals with the constant deciphering of inexpressible connections through working with forms, materials and spaces around oneself. Unpack to Fold Up is a conceptual continuation of the artist's 2021 solo exhibition "I know what was yesterday tomorrow" in Tartu Art House.
…On the other side of the wall there is another room. There is a bed, a nightstand, more books, and a wardrobe in the room. There is a door between the two rooms. The door is neither part of the volume of the space here nor there. The door is a liminal space, thin and human-sized. When the door is open, the only obstacle in the traffic between these two volumes is the threshold that must be crossed. Thus, we can also call the space of the door a threshold area. If bicycle traffic cannot be developed in Tallinn, because the city is shaped like a bow tie, the movement from one volume to another is slowed down by the threshold area. The capacity of the threshold area becomes especially evident at apartment parties, where a cluster always starts to accumulate against the doorpost…
